ABSTRACT VIBEZ

I've been DJing for well over 20 years. My love of music and DJing started at a very young age. I learned how to DJ from watching my late father play music and DJ at all our family and friend events. My uncle was also a DJ who always had the latest gear at the time. I would watch them set up their equipment and play songs that would make everyone at the party dance. This is where my love for all different types of genres of music started. I loved watching my late grandparents dance ballroom as well. My family loves to dance, and this is where I learned how to instruct guests in line dances and different dance steps.

I learned to play some musical instruments along the way too. The saxophone, various drums, and a little piano were my instruments at a young age. I'm really rusty now, but this was my foundation in music and dancing.

 
Around 6th grade, I started experimenting with making my own remixes of songs using a 2-tape deck recorder, karaoke machine, mixer, and a game console to trigger game samples. These were my humble beginnings. I'm probably aging myself by talking about this retro tech. In 7th grade, I started DJing many of our school house parties with my 2 Technics SLB2 turntables and Realistic Mixer. You have to start somewhere. I met one of my current partners, DJ Christylz of United DJs and former 102.5 DJ, as a sophomore in high school. He is one of the people who taught me how to mix and be a mobile DJ. I learned so much from him and continue to do so. Thanks, Chris. I started DJing many of the house and hall parties at our high school. I interned at a small radio station between my junior and senior year and got into some club and party promoting up in SF around this time as well.

 
I met DJ Rocky Rock of Abstract Vibez during my freshman year in college. I also met the late DJ Nicolo of Abstract Vibez around this same time. We all instantly became brothers. This is when I started to refine my DJ sets, scratching, and beat juggling. I joined some Zebra Records DJ battles up in SF and met a lot of amazing DJs and people through that. I was immersed and influenced by the scratching of the Invisibl Skratch Piklz, the Turntablist scene, Hip Hop, underground Raves, House, Jungle, Reggae, Soul, R&B, and many other genres of music.

 
Through my friend DJ Rocky Rock, I was able to meet and work with some great artists. Grammy award winners, multi-platinum artists, and super talented Bay Area DJs/musicians. I feel lucky to have learned little from some of the best. I was able to DJ at some of the nicest clubs, venues, concerts, and shows. I was even able to open for and host some really cool people. It was amazing. I feel truly blessed to have been able to do that. A big thank you goes out to my pare, DJ Rocky Rock. It was all thanks to you.

 
As I aged, I came back full circle to where I started: the family and friends' parties. I really enjoy DJing weddings, festivals, corporate or private parties. I've taken what I learned from so many and used it to help me start and keep a party going for many diverse groups of people with different tastes in genres. I play it all, from EDM to Hip Hop to Classical and everything in between. I truly love DJing and seeing people make memories and enjoy their time.
